Travel Money

In Italy the currency is the Euro.

In Puglia it is very hard to find a bank that will exchange Traveller's Cheques and to do so  will involve a trip into one of the major cities.

Most small shops and restaurants do NOT take credit or debit cards. The larger supermarkets do take cards and in the hypermarket centres you will find "Bancomats" where you can withdraw cash using your credit or debit cards.

If you are travelling to / in Europe from the UK, consider the use of a pre-paid euro card. These often offer a better exchange rate and lower commission, even no commission charges, than your sterling cards. You can compare pre-paid euro cards here, there's also a helpful guide to the cards and how they work here.
