Even on a bright sunny and very hot day in August, to us San Cataldo had an air of shabbiness and neglect. Maybe because of this the beach was less crowded than those at Sant'Andrea, San Foca and Torre Canne.

The Puglia and Basilicata (Lonely Planet Regional Guides) guide book describes San Cataldo : 
"It's a bit of a breeze block settlement, but on a nice strip of sea. In the summer it throbs with activity and, if you have your own transport, there are dozens of appealing coastside bars - mainly huts in scenic spots - that dot the coast from Lecce to San Foca."
